A Family Affair

Greg and Jaime dreamed of a relaxed and inclusive wedding reception

When Samar of Blissful Events brought Jaime to my studio for a consultation I remember thinking she was lovely, sweet and even a little bit shy. She spoke of her boys growing up too fast and how she wanted them by her side to escort her down the aisle when she married her best friend, Greg. They had fallen in love with Olympia’s Valley Estate for their wedding venue; a family owned third generation dairy farm in Petaluma now famous for its gorgeous authentic barn and dramatic weeping willow pond. Out of consideration for their many sober guests, Jaime and Greg decided on a dry wedding and wanted to create a relaxed and inclusive family affair where everyone felt welcome and at ease… including the children.

But how do you keep 40+ children engaged and entertained during a 6 hour wedding reception?

oh… and did I mention there would be rain? yep!

She wore mystery in her hair with the glows of forever after…

It occurred to me that this was an opportunity to have some fun with the littles and so I suggested a flower crown creative activity. We had plenty of room in the barn loft to stage a huge farm table with tons of space to create. We styled the table with prepped flowers, scissors, ribbons, wires and tape. *Pro tip: we prepared the headbands in advance to ensure everyone would hit the ground running and man they sure did! With minimal direction and an admirable quality of determination they snipped and clipped – twisted and flipped and made beautiful floral crowns for themselves and all the ladies in attendance. One little over achiever in particular made one crown for his mom and when she was beyond delighted he came back to make another for her friend. Seriously, it was the sweetest thing ever.

She had flowers in her hair like an adventure of a lifetime but now they mingle and burn with my moonlight and sunshine
