Magical and Micro in the Redwood Grove

Filed Under:

Dappled forest lighting filtered through the Redwood canopy creates a dreamy bokeh backdrop for this romantic Northern California micro wedding

Aimee and Chad were planning a small intimate gathering of just 50-60 of their closest friends and family even before the pandemic began restricting the size of social gatherings in the bay area. The couple envisioned an understated natural aesthetic and relaxed formal feel for their wedding celebration so naturally they chose Deer Park Villa to be the perfect venue. Fortunately they were able to have their wedding on the August 2020 date they originally planned for but sadly their guest list diminished by more than half the week of the wedding. Even so, their wedding day was filled with joy, love and laughter and the bride and groom so rarely took their eyes off one another that I couldn’t help but think …they wouldn’t have noticed the crowd had they even been there.

Smaller crowd, Bigger timeline

With fewer guests attending the wedding there were fewer tasks to manage and the vendors had more time to fuss over the details. The photographer had more than ample time to capture intimate moments and pre ceremony detail shots that often get missed in the hustle of getting those family photos finished before the guests are seated and the groom is ushered to the ceremony. I’ve heard so often how the wedding day seemed to go by in a flash! And with so much time invested in the planning process it seems like the day should last forever. The pace of Aimee and Chad’s micro wedding really slooowed down and felt more natural and relaxed. As a vendor, I was grateful to be able to breathe into my work, giggle with the groomsmen and even stop for a reasonable lunch and latte!

less IS more…

The largest portion of the wedding budget will usually be the food and beverage cost. The upside to having a smaller guest list is lowering that expense. In fact, when you realize how much you could be saving by serving fewer guests you may be inspired to spend a little more on the details that really matter to you like flowers and photography. After all, these are your wedding keepsakes and the memorabilia you will return to year after year. So let’s talk about those decor ideas you thought were out of your budget, let’s add a little more flowering here and there and let’s make it feel like the day you really always dreamed of.
