I met Danielle Kinney a few years ago when we worked together on Jaime and Greg’s wedding at Olympia’s Valley Estate. She was the second shooter so we had a little time to connect while we worked. I immediately loved her style and when she asked me to collaborate on a bridal shoot at the Hotel Petaluma …I didn’t hesitate. It was such an easy process because Danielle was so familiar with the venue, the models and the gowns she wanted to feature. She was confident in my style and encouraged me to create bridal bouquets that inspired me as well.
As soon as I arrived at the vintage Hotel Petaluma I understood perfectly why Danielle chose this setting for her photo shoot. The lighting was absolutely remarkable! The day was rainy and shrouded in cloud overcast creating the perfect moody romantic look that I recognize so consistently in Danielle’s photography. Her work is cinematic, edgy and felt like being transported back in time to a Mae West film set circa 1932. The hotel decor featured luxuriously oversized velvet couches, vintage fixtures and architecture and the tiled floor looked like it could be the original. The elegant ballroom was illuminated by prominent windows to the ceiling that bathed the room in ethereal lighting. And of course the models… they were gorgeous, tattooed and unapologetically sexy.
